CREATIVE KIDS DRAMA

AN INNOVATIVE AND DYNAMIC LITERATURE-BASED DRAMA PROGRAM

An innovative and dynamic literature based drama program.  A professional actor/teacher will lead the class in exploring and dramatizing specially selected children’s stories.

The students then create and act out their own original stories based on these books.  These stories come from all over the world and are carefully chosen for each age group.

This program is structured so that each week we have either A) a story dramatization or B) a story extension lesson. In the story dramatization lesson, we introduce a new book or folk tale and explore that text as actors. Then we act out the story in our own words. In an extension lesson, we create an original story inspired by the book or folk tale we explored in the previous week. All lessons include a warm-up, an activity in which we review and practice basic acting tools and skills, a dramatization (either of a book or folktale or a dramatization of the new story we created), and a closure before dismissal. We do not have a closing performance as part of the program; it's a process-oriented enrichment program designed to foster a fun environment where kids can imagine and explore rather than a product-oriented with performance pressure on students in a short amount of time.

Designed for children Pre-K to grade 5

"I love acting. It’s so much more real than life."
